Baseball Set to Host Triad-Foe High Point Tuesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball returns to the diamond Tuesday at 6 p.m. as it will host the High Point Panthers at 6 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. The Spartans have won nine of the last 11 games and are 4-0 in midweek games this season. UNCG enters at 16-6 and High Point sports a 12-11 record heading into the contest.

This will be the 30th meeting all-time between the two programs with the Spartans holding an 18-11 advantage. Last season, the teams met just one time with the Spartans falling 1-0 at Willard Stadium. UNCG has won the season series in two of the last three seasons. Link Jarrett is 3-4 against the Panthers in his six-year tenure.

There will be live stats and a video stream available for Tuesday's game. Live stats will be courtesy of UNCGStats.com. The video stream will be live on ESPN3 with Paul Roper and Phil Cox on the call.

The Spartans enter having won nine of their last 11 games and are currently tied for first in the Southern Conference with Mercer. High Point took the series from Radford over the weekend and has won five of its last seven contests.

UNCG will send redshirt sophomore Jake Mayhew to the mound. This will be Mayhew's fourth start of the season. He earned his first win of his collegiate career after tossing 5.0 innings against Oakland in his first outing of the season.

Caleb Webster earned the SoCon's Player of the Week award for his efforts last week, hitting .571 with a game-winning walk off home run against VMI. Webster and the Spartans are second in the nation with a .341 team batting average. Cesar Trejo leads the team with a .476 (40-for-84) average, eight doubles, three triples, 30 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Andrew Moritz is second on the team with a .420 (37-for-88) average with a pair of homers, a triple and 21 RBI. Dillon Stewart leads the team with five home runs, hitting at a .381 average (32-for-84).

High Point's pitching staff has earned a 4.81 ERA in 23 games this season, allowing 110 earned runs in 205.2 innings. Jonny Vizcaino has earned a 1.50 ERA with a 4-0 record in 18.0 innings. Grey Lyttle, Rion Murrah and Cooper Jeffers have each picked up a save throughout the season.

The Panthers hit at a .283 team average, ranking first in the Big South. Hunter Lee leads the Panthers with a .348 average with seven doubles, a triple, one home run and a team-best 20 RBI. High Point has hit a total of 15 home runs on the season, with five players connecting on multiple long balls. Daniel Millwee and Austen Zente lead the team with three home runs each, hitting at a .328 and .289 average, respectively.
