Men's Basketball Returns Home To Face Western Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men's basketball will play its penultimate home regular season contest on Thursday night when the Spartans host Western Carolina at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Five Facts To Know

--A victory would give UNCG a 23rd win on the season, tied for the third-most in a single season in program history. Last year's team won a school-best 27 games, surpassing the 25 victories compiled by the 2016-17 team.

--A victory would give UNCG 13 home victories this season, tying the 2016-17 team for the second-most home victories in a single season. The Spartans have won five straight home games, tied for 15th longest streak in the country right now.

--Sophomore guard Isaiah Miller (78) needs just five more steals to set a new program record for steals in a single season in program history. Courtney Eldridge (82) currently holds the single-season record, set in 2000-01.

--Senior guard Francis Alonso is currently on pace to become the second player in program history to reach 2,000 career points. At his current points per game total (16.4) this season, Alonso should hit the mark against The Citadel on Feb. 28.

--Western Carolina enters the game with a 7-21 overall record and the Catamounts are 4-11 in SoCon action. Last week, Western Carolina scored its biggest conference victory of the season, a 21-point win over The Citadel.

The Spartans This Season

UNCG is currently 22-5 overall on the season and 11-3 in SoCon games. While the Spartans were one of just seven teams in the country with 22 wins entering last Thursday's action, UNCG lost both of its games last weekend. It was the first time UNCG has lost back-to-back games dating back 56 contests.

Through 27 games, Alonso leads the team in scoring at 16.4 points per game followed by Miller's 15 points per contest.

Defensively, Miller leads the conference in steals per game (2.9). If the Covington, Ga., native ends up leading the conference in steals, he'll be the first Spartan to do so since Ricky Hickman in 2005-06.

Series History
This will be 54th meeting between the two schools dating back to their first matchup that took place on Jan. 3, 1979. The Spartans trail in the all-time series 21-32. UNCG, however, has won the last six games between the two Hoop State schools, sweeping the season series each of the last two seasons.

The all-time series is an even 10-10 in Greensboro.

Upcoming For The Spartans

The Spartans will return to action on Sunday afternoon to host ETSU for Senior Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
