CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNC Greensboro men's basketball will be going for its 25th victory of the regular season when the Spartans on Thursday face The Citadel at McAlister Field House.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Five Facts To Know
--A victory would give UNCG a 25th victory this season, tying the second-most wins in a single season in program history. Two seasons ago, UNCG won 25 games before winning 27 contests last season, the most in school history.
--A victory would also move the Spartans' road win total this season to 10. Only one time in program history to date has UNCG won at least 10 games away from home court, as the 1994-95 team won 11 road games.
--Senior guard Francis Alonso (1,993) needs just seven more points to join Kyle Hines as the only two players in program history with 2,000 career points. Alonso has scored at least seven points in all but two games this season.
--Sophomore guard Isaiah Miller (87) is already tied for the fifth-most steals in a single season by a Southern Conference player. Miller need just three more steals to tie Western Carolina's Brigham Waginger (90; 2009-10) for the fourth-most steals in one season in conference history. ETSU's Keith Jennings (1990-91) holds the record for most steals in a single season in the SoCon with 109.
--The Citadel enters the game with a 12-15 overall record and a 4-12 SoCon record. The Bulldogs have the league's No. 1 scoring offense at more than 85 points per contest.
The Spartans This Season
UNCG is currently one of just 13 teams in the country with 24 victories after the Spartans on Sunday downed ETSU 60-59 in front of 6,021 fans at the Greensboro Coliseum. It was the largest crowd for any SoCon game this season.
Alonso and Miller lead the Spartans in scoring, as the guard combo averages more than 31 points per game. They're also joined by fellow starting guard in senior Demetrius Troy, who is the floor general with a team-high 118 assists this season.
Junior forward James Dickey, meanwhile, averages 7.8 rebounds and 7.5 points per game this season. He's recorded back-to-back double-doubles as well.
Series History
This will be the 37th meeting between the two conference foes dating back to their first matchup that took place on Jan. 5, 1980. The Spartans hold a 27-9 advantage in the series.
UNCG has won the last 10 meetings since winning a 79-63 decision on Feb. 7, 2015, while the Spartans have not lost to The Citadel in regulation of a regular season contest since Jan. 31, 2009.
