MACON, Ga. – UNC Greensboro men's basketball will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon when the Spartans face Mercer in Hawkins Arena.
Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Five Facts To Know
--A victory would tie last year's team for the most Southern Conference victories (15) in program history.
--A victory would also tie this year's team for the most road victories (11) in program history. During the 1994-95 season, the Spartans won 11 games away from Greensboro.
--Knocking off Mercer would give UNCG a fourth straight victory in a regular season finale dating back to a 69-65 on Feb. 28, 2016.
--Sophomore guard Isaiah Miller (90) is already tied for the fourth-most steals in a single season by a Southern Conference player. Miller need just three more steals to tie ETSU's Zakee Wadood (92; 2003-04) for the second-most steals in one season in conference history. ETSU's Keith Jennings (1990-91) holds the record for most steals in a single season in the SoCon with 109.
--Mercer enters the game with an overall record of 11-18 and the Bears are 6-11 in conference play. After knocking off Samford and Chattanooga last weekend, Mercer on Thursday night fell to VMI 84-71.
The Spartans This Season
Entering the final game of the regular season, UNCG is currently one of just 10 Division I teams in the country with at least 25 victories to date after the Spartans on Thursday night knocked off The Citadel 100-96. Not only was it UNCG's third straight victory by less than five points, the Spartans are now 6-0 in such outcomes this season.
Offensively, UNCG has been led by senior guard Francis Alonso, who is now just the second player in program history with 2,000 career points. Alonso earlier in the season also became the school's leading three-point scorer.
Defensively, sophomore guard Isaiah Miller has already set the single-season school record for steals by a UNCG player and is currently tied for the fourth-most steals by any player in a season by a SoCon player. Additionally, junior forward James Dickey leads the team in total blocks (48) and rebounds per game (7.9).
Series History
This will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two schools dating back to their first matchup that took place on Jan. 5, 1981. Mercer maintains a lead in the series at 8-4.
The last five games between the teams have been close, with the margin of victory in every game no more than seven points.
Upcoming For The Spartans
The Spartans will next turn their attention to the 2019 Ingles SoCon Men's Basketball Championship presented by General Shale. The team's first game will take place on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
