GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro softball (12-10) split a pair of games Sunday at UNCG Softball Stadium in the final day of the Spartan Classic, defeating Delaware (7-11) 6-5 and losing to Towson (5-7) 4-2.

The Spartans scored three unanswered runs in the fifth inning to score the comeback victory over the Blue Hens. With one out, Marisa Sholtes doubled to left field. After Hannah Kincer drew a walk on four-straight balls, Delaney Cumbie smacked the first pitch she saw for a three-run homer to left field, her third of the year.

Delaware jumped out to a three-run lead to begin the game with the help of four errors by UNCG.

The Spartans cut their deficit to one in the bottom of the inning. After singles by Makenna Matthijs and Katie Stettler, Stephanie Bryden knocked in the first run with a single through the left side. With two outs Gabi Howard loaded the bases with a walk, and Cumbie then drew another walk to allow Stettler to jog home for the run.

UNCG tied the game up in the third inning on a two-out, RBI-single to left field by Cumbie to bring home Howard, who reached base on a second walk and got to third base after a wild pitch and ground out.

Delaware had retaken the lead with a two-run homer to right field in the fifth inning.

The Spartans were limited to just three hits by the Tigers. Once again UNCG let its opponent take an early lead in the first inning with two errors that led to three unearned runs on a home run to left field. The Tigers scored its last run on another homer to left field in the third inning.
