Softball Drops Home Series to Western Carolina

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro softball (25-15, 7-4) dropped a pair of games against Western Carolina (16-23, 4-7) 4-3 and 8-3 Saturday at UNCG Softball Stadium. The first game was a finish of Friday's game from the sixth inning, and the third game of the series was cancelled due to the Southern Conference rule of a game not being able to start after 6 p.m. The games didn't get started until 4 p.m. due to weather delays.

After maintaining their lead to get the victory in the first game, the Catamounts scored seven unanswered runs in the second win. After scoring the  first run with a solo homer in the first inning, Western Carolina retook the lead with four runs in the fifth inning on two homers and an RBI-triple.

The Catamounts added three insurance runs in the next inning.

All three Spartans' runs came in the first inning. After a leadoff walk by Makenna Matthijs, Delaney Cumbie homered to left field, her fourth of the year. Marisa Sholtes followed with a home run of her own to left field, her team-high 10th of the year.

UNCG welcomes No. 10/11 Louisiana to UNCG Softball Stadium for a non-conference matchup next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
