GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's tennis kicks off the spring season with back-to-back weekend competitions, opening the approaching campaign at home against UNCW on Saturday before getting on the road against UNC Asheville on Sunday. The Spartans are coming off a 2019 season in which they finished No.4 in the SoCon standings, ending their year against No. 5 Samford in the conference tournament quarterfinals.

MATCHUP HISTORY
• The Spartans have competed against UNCW four times over the past six spring seasons, winning their last matchup against the Seahawks 6-1, in Wilmington
• UNCG has faced off with UNC Asheville in each of the past three years, going a perfect 4-0 against the Bulldogs since 2011.
THE SPARTANS
• The Spartans had an impressive fall, claiming three bracket titles in their final competition of the season, the UNCW Fall Tournament in Wilmington
• UNCG went 9-12 during the previous spring season, tying for fourth in the SoCon with a 3-4 record in conference play
• Junior Brianna Gomez returns for her junior season this fall, clinching a team-high 11 singles wins the previous year
• Competing with three different partners over the course of 2019, rising sophomore Erika Barquero was a part of nine doubles wins, while securing an additional 10 wins as an individual
• Coming to Greensboro by way of FGCU this offseason, sophomore Ariana Chan turned in some impressive performances in the fall season, collecting a total of six singles wins over just four competitions
THE COMPETITION
• The Seahawks' trip to Greensboro is their spring season opener as well, while UNC Asheville opens its campaign at home against Tusculum University on Saturday
• UNCW finished eighth in the CAA standings last year, falling to top seeded William & Mary in the conference tournament semifinals. The Bulldogs came in seventh in the Big South, also bowing out to the top-seed in their conference tournament, Radford.
