GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's basketball clinches the No. 3 seed in this year's Southern Conference Tournament, falling to Furman by a final of 81-67. Three Spartans scored in double-digits on the night, but 17 turnovers sealed the side's fourth loss in conference play this season.
The visiting Paladins would have the hot shooting touch early, jumping out to a 20-9 lead halfway through the first half, hitting nine field goals to the Spartans' four. Furman would lead by as many as 16Â before seeing the Spartans chip away that advantage to nine before the break. Starting guard Isiah Miller would hit a buzzer beater from near full court to cut the visiting team's advantage to single digits, while senior forward James Dickey went a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor in the opening period.
The three-pointer proved to be the great equalizer in the second half, with the Spartans hitting five in the first six minutes of the second. The Paladins continued to lead throughout the entirety of the final 20 minutes, but were never fully out of reach of the Spartans until late, with the home team pulling back within two at the eight-minute mark.Â
Furman closed out the night on a 14-4 run to take home the 81-67 win, despite nine point efforts from Angelo Allegri and Kaleb Hunter in the final 20 minutes. Allegri would finish with 13, just two shy of James Dickey's team-high of 15, while Isaiah Miller dealt out seven assists and tied a career-high with two blocks.Â
UNCG drops to 13-4 in SoCon play this season to fall to third in the conference standings. The Spartans will clinch the third seed in this year's Southern Conference tournament, with ETSU claiming the conference regular season title in their Wednesday night win over Wofford.Â
Playing in their final regular season contest of the 2019-20 campaign, the Spartans honored seniors Kyrin Galloway, Malik Massey and James Dickey for this year's 'Senior Night' celebration. This year's graduating class has already accrued 107 wins over their four-year careers, the most of any set of seniors in program history.
