GREENSBORO, N.C. – This past Sunday following a touchdown, Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers turned to fans in Chicago's Soldier Field and shouted, "I still own you," a remark made in reference to his consistent success against the Bears during his fantastic career.
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team can say the same things to their southern neighbors in the state of South Carolina. The Spartans are the unofficial champions of the Palmetto State, having already defeated Winthrop, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Furman, and USC Upstate by a combined score of 20-1 this season.
The Spartans look to remain perfect against South Carolina programs when they play their final regular season home match against Wofford in a key Southern Conference contest Saturday at 7 p.m.
Of course, if things go as expected, UNCG will make at least one more appearance at home in the Southern Conference semifinals. A win over Wofford would almost assure UNCG no worse than a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
To earn the No. 1 seed, the Spartans, ranked 25th in the College Soccer News Top 25 poll, will need a little help. To start, they must beat Wofford and East Tennessee State in their final two conference matches and hope that Belmont stumbles in its final SoCon match against Mercer.
That's all irrelevant to UNCG men's soccer head coach
Chris Rich, who's only focused on a tough Wofford squad coming off a great win over High Point earlier this week.
