GREENSBORO, N.C. – Head baseball coach,
Billy Godwin, unveils the 2022 schedule that includes a three-game series at South Carolina and Central Florida.
"We again have put together an outstanding schedule that will test our players on a national and regional level," coach Godwin said. "Our goal is to play the best non-conference teams possible that will prepare us for competing and winning a Southern Conference Championship."
UNCG will open the 2022 season at SEC member, South Carolina on Friday, February 8. The first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. The Spartans will continue their four-game road trip to open the season with a midweek matchup against Wake Forest.
The longest road trip for the Blue and Gold will be 589.2 miles when they head to the Sunshine State for a three-game series against AAC runner-up, Central Florida.
The Spartans will play 31 home games in 2022, 30 inside of UNCG Baseball Stadium, including a matchup against ACC powerhouse NC State and the 2016 National Champions, Coastal Carolina.
UNCG's home opener will be on Friday, February 25. The Spartans will welcome Appalachian State for a weekend series. The first pitch at the stadium will be at 4 p.m.
This season, the Spartans will play one game inside of a professional park. On March 27, the Spartans will play Davidson at Truist Point Park in High Point, N.C.
The Spartans will open SoCon play on April 8
th with a three-game series at Wofford. The two other away series will include The Citadel and Western Carolina. The Spartans and Catamounts will close out the regular season on May 19-21.
UNCG will host four conference home series with Mercer being the conference home opener, followed by Samford, VMI, and ETSU.
The 2022 SoCon tournament will be held from May 25-29 in Greenville, S.C.
The Spartans schedule includes 10 games against 2021 NCAA participants and seven against Power 5 teams.
