GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball hosted North Carolina for its third fall ball game on Friday evening.
The Spartans defeated the Tar Heels 3-2 at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
Freshman pitcher Reese Byrd got the start for UNCG as she retired 12-straight batters in four innings of work.
In the bottom of the first, senior
Delaney Cumbie was hit by a pitch and junior
Maycin Brown singled putting runners on first and second. Senior
Samantha Lagrama connected for a RBI double to left, scoring Cumbie from second. Graduate student
Jordan Gontram brought home Brown and Lagrama with a two-run single to left, putting the Spartans up 3-0.
Junior
Morgan Scott came in to relieve Byrd in the circle, as she threw two scoreless and hitless innings. Before the Spartans could claim victory, North Carolina scored two late runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run homerun, but Byrd was able to close out the game to secure the win, 3-2.
Sophomore
Brooklynn Maxwell had two hits in the game and junior
Blayke Batten added a single.
