GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will spend the weekend competing against North Carolina A&T. The Spartans will visit the Aggies in a doubleheader on Friday starting at 12 p.m. at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
The teams will come over to UNCG and play two more games on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Both squads have played five games so far. This will be the 49th all-time meeting between the programs. UNCG has won 95.8 percent of the matchups against North Carolina A&T.
UNCG opened its season last weekend against Kentucky and Appalachian State. The Spartan offensive leaders last weekend were
Makenna Matthijs (.375 batting average),
Kayleigh Willis (.368) and
Brooklynn Maxwell (.357).
Jordan Gontram also hit a pair of home runs and leads UNCG with five RBIs.
Pitcher
Morgan Scott has 18 strikeouts in three games this season, which is second in the SoCon.
Alina Varga tossed her first career complete game to lead the Spartans to a 9-5 win over Appalachian State.
The Aggies have played Georgia State, Presbyterian, and Elon. North Carolina A&T dropped an 8-5 decision to Elon earlier this week.
For the season, the Aggies top hitters through five games have been Alyxx Estrada (.333 batting average/.417 slugging percentage/.500 on-base percentage) and Joi Deese (.333/.417). Deese also has three stolen bases. Kendall Macauley has a .300 batting average for the Aggies.
Following this weekend's series against North Carolina A&T, UNCG will remain home to host in-state foe UNCW in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, March 5 at 1 p.m.
