DURHAM -- Brianna Gomez and
Hanna Giddings stayed unbeaten in singles matches, helping UNCG stay perfect in women's tennis with a 6-1 victory at N.C. Central in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans are 4-0 and off to their best start in at least 15 years while dropping Central to 1-6. The Spartans next host Wofford in a Southern Conference match at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Gomez defeated Central's Josefa Fernandez 0-6, 6-4, 6-1 at first singles, while Giddings beat Maru Berghaus in straight sets at second singles, 6-3, 6-3.
Eugenia Camacho,
Juliana Craft and
Tayah Cross also won singles matches for The G, which improved to 19-5 in singles matches so far this season.
UNCG scored its first doubles point of the season. Giddings and Cross won their match 6-2, while Camacho and Gomez won a walkover at third doubles.
Jade Houston scored Central's lone point, defeating UNCG's
Emily Ory at third singles 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1.
