GREENSBORO, N.C. - With some inclement weather forcing the Spartans inside on Friday, redshirt sophomore Hanna Giddings continued her perfect start to the season as UNCG women's tennis fell to Samford 6-1.

The Bulldogs claimed the first point of the day, sweeping doubles, but the combination of Giddings and Sophia Adams forced the Samford top pairing to an extra game as they grabbed a 7-5 decision at the first seed. 

After conceding the opening set, both Juliana Craft and Emily Ory forced their opponents at the No. 6 and No. 4 respectively to an extra game in set two, but both Bulldog opponents emerged with a 7-5 victory in that frame.

Hanna Giddings grabbed her sixth straight singles decision on court three, taking her match in two sets. The Georgia-native took the opening frame 6-2 but then was forced into a tie-breaker in the second, in which she took a 7-6 final.

Sophia Adams forced three sets on court one. The fifth-year senior conceded the opener 6-1, but battled back with a 6-3 win in set two. She dropped the deciding frame by a count of 6-3 as the Bulldogs claimed their sixth and final point of the night to grab their first win in conference play in 2021. 

The Spartans continue conference play on the road prepping for back-to-back contests at Chattanooga and Furman on the 21st and 26th. Those two matches kickoff a three-match road trip for UNCG before returning home against App State at the end of the month
