GREENVILLE, S.C. - Senior
Brianna Gomez defeated Furman's Julia Adams 6-4, 7-6 in their No. 2 singles match, leading UNCG women's tennis (4-3, 3-1) in a 6-1 loss to the hosting Paladins at Mickel Tennis Center.
Furman (13-6 overall, 3-0 Southern Conference) leads the SoCon and is ranked No. 34 in the nation, with two players on their current roster ranking in the top-100 of the ITA's most recent singles rankings.
Gomez improved to 5-2 in singles this year and 2-1 in SoCon play after her win against Adams. Gomez' victory represents the Spartans' first against a ranked individual this year, with the Paladins' No. 2 currently sitting at No. 77 in the nation.
UNCG sophomore
Hanna Giddings lost a singles match for the first time this season after a 6-0 start to the spring. Furman's Madison Dillon won their third singles match 6-4, 6-1.
UNCG plays again at 2 p.m. Sunday at UNCW as the side closes out its two-match road trip in Wilmington.
