GREENSBORO, N.C. - With Wednesday's match getting moved indoors due to rain, UNCG women's tennis claimed a 4-3 victory over visiting Appalachian State at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

The Spartans were forced to come from behind to grab their fifth win of the season after conceding the doubles point. Brianna Gomez and Juliana Craft blanked their opponents in the third seed 6-0 but a pair of wins for the Mountaineers on courts one and two gave the visitors the first point of the afternoon.

UNCG delivered wins in four of its six singles matches to close out the day and clinch the victory however. 

Senior Tayah Cross hardly allowed her opposite in the sixth seed to win a game, taking straight sets 6-2 and 6-0. The matches on courts one and two belonged to the Mountaineers, but the Spartans grabbed three set victories at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 seeds to grab the winning points. 
 
Hanna Giddings brought her singles record to a team best 7-2 in the third seed. The redshirt sophomore took the first set 6-4 and nearly fought to a straight set victory, but dropped the tie-breaker in the second frame 7-5. Giddings bounced back with a 6-2 final however to complete the win.

Emily Ory and Juliana Craft worked to three set victories as well. Ory won a 7-4 tie-breaker in set one, eventually taking the third 6-1 after falling 7-5 in the second. Craft conceded the first set of her match at the No. 5 by a score of 6-4, but closed things out 6-0 and 6-4 to remain an undefeated 2-0 when playing in the fifth seed in 2021. 

The Spartans get back to SoCon play this Friday, traveling to Johnson City to faceoff with ETSU, who is currently leading the conference on a 3-0 record.
