ELON, N.C. - Hanna Giddings grabbed her team best eighth singles win of the season as UNCG women's tennis fell to Elon 5-2 to start the Spartans' two-match road trip this Friday.

The Phoenix took the first points of the afternoon, winning two of three doubles matches to kick off the contest. Tayah Cross and Emily Ory combined for a 6-3 win against Elon's No. 3 pairing, but losses on courts one and two put the Spartans behind 1-0 going into singles play.

Elon grabbed back-to-back individual wins on courts four and six, before the Spartans picked up their first point of the day on court three. After taking set one 6-4, Giddings allowed her opponent to tie things at a frame apiece, before completing the win in another 6-4 final in the third.

Brianna Gomez forced three sets against Elon's No. 1 after winning set two 7-5, but dropped the tiebreaker 10-3. 

Juliana Craft grabbed her team's lone other point, taking the tiebreaker 10-3 for her sixth singles win of the season. Her win total is second only to Giddings' eight on the Spartan roster, while Gomez' is tied with Craft at six. 

The Spartans complete their road trip at Chattanooga this Monday, their final road SoCon challenge of the spring.
