Miller Embracing The NBA Draft Journey

A day after being named the Southern Conference Bob Waters Male Athlete of the Year, uncgspartans.com caught up with Isaiah Miller, who shared some insight on the draft workouts and process.

Home has been a state of mind for Isaiah Miller.

However, as long as there's a hoop, court, and a ball, Miller is always right at home. Even though he is traveling across the country, the 6-0 guard is in a great place as he prepares for the NBA Draft. He's enjoyed lots of arduous workouts in front of numerous professional scouts, executives, and coaches.

"Everything is going well," said Miller from Minnesota as the sounds of basketballs ricocheting off the floor echoed in the background Thursday morning. "I've been enjoying everything because you only get to go through one draft process like the one that I am experiencing."

So far, Miller has worked out for Golden State, Sacramento, Atlanta, and Memphis. He was in Minnesota Thursday morning. He has workouts remaining with Brooklyn, Charlotte, and Houston within the next week. He had an encouraging Pro Day performance in Chicago last weekend.

Miller was in a great mood a day after being named Southern Conference Bob Waters Male Athlete of the Year, the only UNCG student-athlete, male or female, to receive this honor.

"I was surprised to learn that I was the first student-athlete in UNCG history to win an award like this because I would have thought that Kyle Hines would've won it at some point," Miller said. "It's an honor to be recognized by the SoCon especially knowing that I am the first one. I am humbled."

Now, he's putting in work believing that this NBA dream will be a reality later this month when the draft commences at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on July 29th.

"I am learning and growing with each experience," Miller said. "I am adapting. I have had some good workouts and some average ones. I am taking it one day at a time. I am training, sleeping, and eating to the best of my ability. I've also learned you have to spend your time (between workouts) wisely as well."

The sleep part has been challenging as Miller has to rest on planes between workouts. He has gotten home late and had some early mornings. It doesn't matter because there is nowhere else that Miller would rather be than in his sneaker-squeaking sanctuary showcasing his dynamite skills and doing what he loves to do.

Miller has generated lots of social media buzz as many are considering the two-time SoCon Player of the Year and three-time SoCon Defensive Player of the Year a sleeper with a tremendous upside who could impact the right team.

"I appreciate all the love on social media, but right now but I am focused on the work," Miller said. "I am going to let my work do the talking for me. I know that if I put in the work, I'll get to where I want to be."

What They Are Saying

NBA Draftscout.com
Miller is a speedy playmaker that can score points in a hurry and he'll make tough shots off the dribble. Currently, he projects to be a borderline second-round pick."
