GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro women's soccer team returns home for the first time since its home opener on August 19. The Spartans host in-state rival NC State on Thursday, September 2 at UNCG Soccer Stadium with a 7 p.m. start time.
 
BRING OUT THE G
For the Spartans' home opener, the UNCG Soccer Stadium welcomed 1,938 of campus' closest friends, for the third-largest crowd in program history.
 
All UNCG Students in attendance Thursday night can enter to win Greensboro Coliseum concert tickets to see Kane Brown, J Cole, Lil Baby, or Eric Church. Winners must be present to win.
 
The Pearl Food Truck and Kona Ice Truck will be in attendance.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • Senior Nicole Souply leads the Spartans with two goals and four points, while junior Maddy Gilhool follows with one goal and one assist for three points.
  • Senior Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper returns in net for UNCG, as she was named SoCon Goalkeeper of the Week for back-to-back shutouts to open the season.  
  • The Spartans have scored first in each of the last three games
  • UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
  • Senior Kayla Campbell was the lone Spartan to be named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-SoCon team. She led all defenders in 2019 with five goals, while being a force on the back line helping UNCG to six clean sheets. 
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
  • The UNC Greensboro women's soccer team fell to UNC Wilmington Sunday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium with a score of 2-1 in non-conference action.  
  • UNCG struck first as Maddy Gilhool caught the Seahawks' defense off guard and Nicole Souply put the rebound away for her second goal of the season at 1:21, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • UNCW responded with two goals in the remaining time of the first half.
  • Senior goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper stopped six shots at the doorstep.
SCOUTING NC STATE
  • The Wolfpack was picked to finish 10th in the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Poll out of 14 teams.
  • Last season, NC State finished 5-3-1 overall.
  • In April, head coach Tim Santoro announced the addition of 12 to the recruiting class.
  • Currently, Jameese Joseph leads the Wolfpack with three goals in four games, good for six points. Jenna Butler follows with two goals and four points, while Annika Wohner has scored one goal and one assist for three points.
  • In goal, Maria Echezarreta has averaged 1.35 goals against, giving up six goals, and tallying eight saves.
WOLFPACK'S LAST TIME OUT
  • NC State women's soccer (1-1-2) dropped a 2-1 result to 10th-ranked South Carolina (3-0-0) on Sunday afternoon in its home opener at Dail Soccer Stadium.
  • For the third time in four matches, Jameese Joseph (2') scored within the first 10 minutes of the contest when she managed to beat out South Carolina's defense from the midfield and finished from just inside the 18-yard box to the bottom right corner of the net.
  • South Carolina outshot NC State 12-5 in the contest.

  • UNCG hosts James Madison University for its second of three-straight home matches on Thursday, September 9 at UNCG Soccer Stadium with a 7 p.m. start time.
