UNCG's Transformational First-Floor Branding Project Is A Game-Changer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro athletics unveiled details about the recent facility branding upgrades to the first floor of the Coleman Building.

The renovations to the first floor included an all-sports wall featuring photos of each sport offered at UNCG, a fresh coat of paint, UNCG logos, touch-screen hall of fame display, and a Spartan helmet. In addition, a backlit display illuminates the lobby entrance to transform the Coleman Building entrance.

UNCG worked in conjunction with Holt Environments of High Point, N.C., who performed the design, fabrication, and installation of this project. The digital Hall of Fame is powered by TouchPros software. Daija Ijames, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing oversaw the renovation design.

This is part of UNCG's investment in its student-athletes to provide championship facilities that allows them to compete at a high level and achieve excellence in the classroom.

"Our priority is the student-athlete experience," UNCG Interim Director of Athletics Kevin Bostian said.  "I believe we've captured the essence of The Spartan Way with this comprehensive graphics and branding investment connecting the areas which impact the spaces where our teams spend the most time outside of the classroom.

"This is transformational in the sense that our student-athletes can walk into this space, have pride in our history and understand the special tradition of Spartan athletics."

Among some of the key details of each element of the redesigned space include:

The Spartan Way
UNCG's Spartan Way statement of "We discover and develop champions in life" is prominently displayed as are the department's core values of student-athlete well-being, teamwork, responsibility, integrity, diversity, and excellence.

Lobby
This backlit display features a cutout G spear pattern and 3D lettering where light will shine through. Vinyl text is displayed in the lobby ceiling with yellow parallelograms descending from the ceiling to add a transformative, modern look to this building entrance.

All-Sport Wall
As fans, students, and patrons move through the first floor they are able to see all sports represented at UNCG through individual 6' standoffs that feature former student-athletes to represent each athletic program along with 3D lettering.

Hall of Fame
We have preserved our history with an area dedicated to the UNCG Athletics Hall of Fame. Fans will be able to navigate the digital Hall of Fame display through a new 75" touchscreen that features photos and bios of all 85 Hall of Fame inductee members. Fans can navigate this display by searching via sport/category, induction year, or last name. This display also features a scrolling display of all athletic programs' Twitter feeds and a slideshow of current student-athletes.

Adjacent to this touchscreen is a nearly 11' tall space that features acrylic, etched plaques for all current 85 Hall of fame inductees.

Academics Space
Nearly 7' tall standoff graphics highlight former student-athletes in their cap and gowns as you enter the Spartan Academic Success Center.

Spartan Helmet
To institute new traditions within the Coleman Building, a spartan helmet mounted to a concrete platform was placed on a stairwell column. As patrons ascend and descend the stairwell in the middle of the Coleman Building, you will be able to rub the bronze Spartan helmet for Spartan strength.

Strength Hallway
The hallway leading to the Bodford Family Speed, Strength, & Conditioning Center and additional coaches' offices was painted navy blue and bordered with a Greek key vinyl. The G Spear logo was added as a dimensional signage element in this hallway.

This is the latest facility enhancement that has been completed within the last 18 months at UNCG. The Academic Success Center and Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center were part of the Five for Five Campaign For Champions.
