CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team took to the pitch on Friday and tied with Western Carolina University (WCU), 0-0, at the Catamount Sports Complex in Southern Conference (SoCon) play.
The Spartans' goalkeeper
Abby Buchholz kept her team in the game after a number of key saves, ending the match with six.
How it Happened:
The first shot of the game was taken by UNCG midfielder
Hannah Morton who got the ball at her feet inside the 18-yard box. The shot went just right of the goal right around the 12-minute mark.
Following the opportunity for the Spartans, the Catamounts struck back with back-to-back chances in the 15
th minute of play. Buchholz stayed strong in her net though, and had stopped one of them.
Western Carolina had one of its best opportunities in the second half, after a Catamount offender was able to break through the Spartan's back line within the 18-yard box. Buchholz came sliding out, blocking the shot attempt and giving her defense time to recover and help out.
The Catamounts offense continued to test the Spartans' defense with eight shots in the second half, but UNCG picked up its attack with five of its own in the frame.
