MONTREAL, CANADA – Three from UNC Greensboro (UNCG) scored in double figures, but the Spartans fell to Stephen F. Austin in the final game of the Northern Classic, 75-58, Sunday afternoon at Place Bell Arena.
Freshman
Donovan Atwell scored a career-best 11 points, shooting 3-for-6 from behind the arc.
Keondre Kennedy scored a game-high 17 points, while
Keyshaun Langley notched 10 points.
How it Happened
UNCG opened the game with an 6-0 run, including back-to-back three pointers from
Keyshaun Langley and
Keondre Kennedy. After a basket from SFA,
Mikeal Brown-Jones made a dunk to make it 8-2 at 16:47. A 13-2 run from the Lumberjacks put SFA on a five-point advantage, 15-10. UNCG closed the gap to three, 17-14, with two free throws made from Keyshaun. A seven-point run put SFA up 10, 24-10 at 8:48. With 5:47 left in the half, the Lumberjacks saw a 15-point lead, their largest lead of the half, 35-20. UNCG cut the deficit to seven before the final buzzer, 39-32 on a layup from
Mohammed Abdulsalam, but SFA squeezed in a layup to have a nine-point lead, 41-32.
The Spartans cut the deficit to six coming out of the locker room, but SFA was quick to respond with a 10-point run extending the lead to 51-35, at 16:02. The Lumberjacks saw its largest lead of the game, 63-39, with 8:05 remaining. UNCG's
