Jordan Gontram was named Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week, announced by the Conference on Monday.
This is the first recognition for the Spartans this season.
Gontram started and played in all four games this weekend during the Spiro Classic that UNCG hosted. The designated player led the team with a .636 batting average this weekend, swinging 7-for-11 at the plate. Gontram also led the team with a .636 on-base percentage and a 1.273 slugging percentage. She scored three runs, hit a double, sent out two home runs, and totaled five RBI.
She is currently among the top 10 in the SoCon in four categories. Gontram is fifth in home runs (2), sixth in total bases (16), seventh in slugging percentage (.640), and ninth in batting average (.360).
The Spartans are now 5-3 overall and won four-straight games this weekend, including the first two run-ruled games of the season. During the tournament, UNCG defeated Rider twice, 10-1 in 5 innings and 8-1, and George Washington 7-3 and 10-1 in six innings. UNCG tallied at least seven hits in each game this weekend. The Spartans have recorded at least one home run in each of the last seven games.
From Gontram
"It's always a cool honor to earn Player of the Week. This past week, I had been working on some adjustments to my approach at the plate, so to see that payoff and show up in games was rewarding. We had a lot of fun this weekend and always enjoy the opportunity to play at home. Going undefeated and having our offense take off the way it did was the improvement we wanted to see from last weekend in Miami. So, that was awesome to have everything come together and we want to keep it going this week."
