WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Tuesday night at David F. Couch Ballpark.
Junior
Austin Koehn earned his second start of the season against the Demon Deacons. The right-handed pitchers also earned the nod on Opening Day against South Carolina.
Sam Murchison relieved Koehn after a brief outing.
Murchison pitched 2.1 innings and finished with three strikeouts. He also made an appearance in the Gamecock series and finished with three strikeouts to bring his season total to six.
Greg Hardison got the Spartans started in the top of the second inning with a single. He advanced to second on
Ethan McKay's pop-up to first and then again to third on
Mitchell Smith's single to third base.
Matt Kemp stepped up to the plate with the focus to bring Hardison home. Kemp did just that with a single to Wake's shortstop.
Brett Kelly's walk loaded the bases with
Kennedy Jones up to bat.
The lone error of the game came from the Deacs and allowed Smith to score to give the Spartans two runs. UNCG's third run came in the top of the fourth. Kemp and Kelly walked to put men on first and second. Jones' single brought Kemp home and gave the Spartans their third run.
Three pitchers made their 2022 debut:
Hunter Shuey,
Price King, and
Camden Noble. Shuey's was also his collegiate debut. He only allowed four hits against 14 batters faced.
Wake Forest would win with a final score of 23-3.
