Game Notes: UNCG | ETSU

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2021-22 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team concludes its regular season with a nationally-televised contest against East Tennessee State University (ETSU) on Sunday afternoon.

When the Spartans wake up Sunday morning, they will have a clearer picture of who they will open the Southern Conference Tournament with next Saturday in Asheville. Right now, fans would have an easier time figuring out a complicated math equation then sorting the myriad of tiebreaking scenarios. It's enough to make your head hurt.

UNCG begins the final game in a three-way tie for fourth place with VMI and Wofford. What we do know is UNCG can finish no lower than sixth and therefore will begin defense of its SoCon Tournament crown on Saturday, March 5.

The Spartans have defeated every SoCon team except for Mercer this season. That includes ETSU. UNCG rallied from a 12-point first half deficit to beat the Bucs, 80-76, in Johnson City on Jan. 26.

Last Time Out
  • Dante Treacy scored a career-high 24 points to lead UNCG past Western Carolina, 73-64.
  • Ty Brewer finished with 19 points during ETSU's 83-77 setback to Chattanooga.

Seedings Locked
  • While UNCG is still unsure of its opponent in the SoCon Tournament, ETSU knows it will meet The Citadel on Friday, March 4 at 5 p.m. with the winner taking on regular season winner Chattanooga Saturday, March 5 at 12 p.m. It's just a matter of who will finish as the No. 8 seed so they get to wear the white uniforms.
  • Western Carolina will be the No. 10 seed.
  • Furman will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed.
