ELON, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in the 12
th inning to the Elon Phoenix on Friday night in Latham Park.
UNCG jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Mitchell Smith singled to through the right side to advance
Greg Hardison to second.
Dallas Callahan reached on a fielding error that also scored Smith.
Zack Budzik got on base with a single to center field. He scored after advancing on single from
Hogan Windish and
Greg Hardison. The Phoenix answered with one run in the bottom of the third.
Bradley Bott scored the Spartan's third run, advancing to second on Callahan's bunt and scoring on
Pres Cavenaugh's single up the middle.
Elon tied the game at three after scoring a run in the sixth and the eighth inning.
The Spartans had Bott 90 feet from home to give them the one-run lead in the top of the 11
th inning but nothing came of it after a fly ball to center. Elon almost ended the game in the 11
th, but Cavenaugh's cannon to home got the runner out and sent the game to 12 innings.
Elon ended the game with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12
th inning.
