Southern Conference announces monthly honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball junior
Maycin Brown was named Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Month for February, announced by the Conference on Friday.
UNCG saw three Players of the Month this February, including Brown, Kennedy Jones from baseball and Nick Lyerly from men's golf.
Prior to this honor,
Jordan Gontram,
Blayke Batten, and
Delaney Cumbie each were named SoCon Players of the week, three-straight weeks.
Brown led the way for the Spartans during February with a .415 batting average. She started and played in all 13 games at third base this month swinging 17-for-41. Brown sent out two home runs, tallied five doubles, scored nine runs, and drove in seven RBI. The Summerville, South Carolina native had a .683 slugging percentage and a .510 on-base percentage, where she walked six times and was hit by a pitch twice. She also went 1-for-1 on stolen bases.
In the field, Brown had 14 putouts, 25 assists, and one double play with just one error for a .975 fielding percentage.
She is currently among the top 10 in the SoCon in 13 categories. Brown is second in hits (24), doubles (7), and total bases (40), third in slugging percentage (.606) and total plate appearance (79), fourth in batting average (.364), fifth in on-base percentage (.468), walks (10), and assists (37), sixth in runs scored (13) and at bats (66), eighth in runs batted in (11) and hit-by-pitch (3).
The Spartans are now 13-8 overall. They have had a home run in 17 of the 21 games played. UNCG is ninth nationally in home runs per game averaging 1.52 and total home runs with 32. Brown is in the top 100 nationally of three categories: 73

th in doubles per game, and 98
th in total bases.
