CHARLESTON, S.C. – Alexander Zuckerman led the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team during a tough 4-3 setback to the College of Charleston Sunday in a non-conference match.
Zuckerman had a great afternoon for the Spartans, who were playing their first match in a week. He was a 6-4 winner with
Roger Rogowski at No. 1 doubles. Later in the match, Zuckerman was a winner at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
For Zuckerman and Rogowski it was their team-leading fourth victory at No. 1 doubles. It was Zuckerman's third singles triumph of the season.
Hugh Knapp won his second consecutive match at No. 3 singles in a three-set thriller. After falling in the first set, 6-4, he stormed back to win 7-6, 7-5 in the final two sets. Knapp has seven singles victories, which ties for the team lead.
The Spartans claimed the doubles point by winning all three matches. The No. 2 pairing of
Nico Grewe and
Hampus Johansson was a 6-4 winner. Grewe and Johansson are 2-0 as a doubles pair this season.
The Spartans duo of Knapp and
Cooper Wyett completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory.
Grewe forced a third set after dropping the first set for the Spartans.
UNCG returns to action on Tuesday, March 22 when it visits Campbell at 2 p.m.
