GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team continues Southern Conference competition when it visits Samford on Friday and Mercer on Saturday. Both matches commence at 1 p.m.
For UNCG, this concludes an arduous stretch of playing seven of eight matches on the road.
A Look At UNCG
- The Spartans have been off since March 9 when it dropped a decision to nationally-ranked Stetson.
- Erika Barquero won her second straight match at No. 1 singles by claiming a straight-sets victory, 7-5, 7-5.
- Barquero and Ariana Chan were leading their doubles match, 4-3, when it was stopped because Stetson had clinched the doubles point.
- Barquero leads UNCG with four singles wins at No. 1 singles.
- Olivia Gallagher has three victories.
- The No. 1 doubles team of Barquero and Chan have won four matches.
- UNCG's lone victory this season was a 4-3 conquest of North Carolina Central.
A Look At Samford
- The Bulldogs are 7-5.
- They have won three consecutive matches.
- Samford defeated Appalachian State, 4-1, in its last outing.
- The Bulldogs have been led this season by R.J. Van Rensburg, who has a team-best 10 singles victories.
- Samantha Nanere and Lindsay Song have eight singles wins each.
- Nanere was the Southern Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 15.
- Samford has won five straight matches against UNCG.
- This is Samford's SoCon opener.
A Look At Mercer
- The Bears are 6-7 overall.
- They dropped a 7-0 decision to Charleston Southern on March 9.
- Since that loss, Mercer has had its last two matches postponed.
- Mercer's top two players are Mary Courville and Lauren Rich.
- In Mercer's last victory over Eastern Michigan on Feb. 26, Courville, Naya Tillitt and Lauren Rich won in straight sets.
- This will be Mercer's second match in 20 days.
- This is also Mercer's SoCon opener.
