BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team battled hard during a 5-2 setback to Campbell in a non-conference match that took 3 hours, 30 minutes to complete Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans were a couple of points from reversing the decision and enjoying a happier outcome.
UNCG started the match strong by winning the doubles point behind wins from the No. 1 tandem of
Nico Grewe and
Roger Rogowski and No. 3 pair of
Christopher Johns and
Hampus Johansson.
Hugh Knapp and
Cooper Wyett were on their way to making a clean sweep of doubles as they were ahead when the match was stopped after UNCG clinched the doubles point. Coming into this match, Campbell had won the doubles point in eight straight matches.
Grewe and Rogowski ended the nine-match winning streak of Damien Nezar and Benjamin Maes with a thrilling 7-6 victory.
Knapp earned his team-leading ninth singles victory at the No. 3 position with a three-set triumph over Robin Angles. Knapp displayed tremendous grit in rallying to win the match, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. It was one of three singles matches that were decided in three sets.
Alex Zuckerman and Rogowski forced a third set after dropping the first set.
