GREENSBORO, N.C.- Junior
Zack Budzik went 4-for-5 at the plate in the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's dominant 12-1 win over the Towson Tigers on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Spartans will take the series and look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon.
The Tigers held the Spartans hitless through four innings.
Zack Budzik singled on a bunt and then stole second to put himself in scoring position. UNCG loaded the bases by
Hogan Windish's walk and
Greg Hardison being hit by a pitch.
Mitchell Smith reached first on a fielder's choice and Budzik scored. Windish stole home to score the Spartan's second run while Smith stole second.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth with four runs.
Kennedy Jones scored the first run on a single by Budzik. Windish stepped up to the plate and cleared the bases with a three-run homer to left field to give UNCG a 6-0 lead.
The hot bats didn't cool off. The Blue and Gold scored another four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Smith reached first on walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Rowan Watt hit a double to left-center to bring Smith across the plate.
Pres Cavenaugh tripled to the center field and cleared the bases to bring
Bradley Bott and
Rowan Watt home.
The Spartans would score two more runs before the final out of the game. Bott and Smith would score a run on an RBI single from Budzik. UNCG would take a 2-0 lead on the series with a 12-1 final.
RHP
Austin Parsley earned his third start of the season and his second win. The senior pitched 6.0 innings, walked one, and struck out four.
