UNCG Takes Two From ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team continued to amaze each other, the fans, and the record books in taking two games on Friday against Southern Conference (SoCon) foe ETSU.

The Spartans won 3-2 and 6-1.

The two wins extend UNCG's win streak to five and its SoCon streak to 11.

The Spartans have now won 16-straight regular-season games against SoCon opponents dating back to the 2021 season and 19-straight overall games against conference foes, including post-season games.

In the last 16 games, UNCG has marked 15 of them as wins.

Those are just some team streaks.

Makenna Matthijs hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth in game one. Matthijs' tally ended up being the game-winning hit and run. Grace Loftin blasted a three-run bomb immediately followed by a solo homer from Jordan Gontram in the top of the fifth in game two.

The Spartans have hit at least one home run in 34 games this season. Game two was the 24th game with at least two or more home runs.

Morgan Scott recorded her 200th strikeout of the season. This is the second season in her career with 200 or more strikeouts.

Matthijs on the defensive web gems in game two
"The outies went off today and it was fun to be a part of it. Making plays like those is one of the best things about being in the grass and it's not often we get that many in one day. It all goes back to getting the job done and playing behind our pitchers."

Records:
UNCG (30-11, 11-0 SoCon)
ETSU (5-36, 1-7 SoCon)
