Spartans Late Rally Bests Lancers

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Hogan Windish's game-tying home run was the turning point in the Spartan's 4-3 win over the Longwood Lancers to tie the series on Saturday afternoon.

Windish pinched hit in the bottom of the eighth and after one pitch, hit his fifth home run of the season over the left-field wall to tie the game. Zack Budzik reached on fielder's choice and then scored the game-winner while the Lancers were caught up in a rundown with Greg Hardison.

Jared Mathewson started the game with a three-pitch first inning. Budzik doubled to left field to get the Spartans in an early scoring position. Budzik scored the first run for UNCG in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Hardison.

Mitchell Smith scored the Spartan's second run on a single from Pres Cavenaugh. The Lancers took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth and held it until the eighth.

SPARTANS INTERVIEWING SPARTANS
Bradley Bott: "What was your approach at the plate?"
Hogan Windish: "I was just trying to hit it hard somewhere. I was trying to put it in play and get a rally started and it worked. We got the dub."
Bott: "You're coming off an injury at UCF. How is that coming along?"
Windish: "It's coming along. Taking it day by day. The hope is to DH in the coming games and go from there."
Bott: "Last question. What is your go-to pregame snack?"
Windish: "Pregame snack is definitely clementine oranges."
