The Final Goodbye: Alex Rodriguez

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Over the next few days, we will be recognizing our three UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team seniors that will be concluding their collegiate softball careers at the end of this season.

Our final recognition, Alex Rodriguez, will complete her bachelors of science degree in human development and family studies with a concentration in child, youth, and family development after three years at UNCG. Following graduation, she will stay a Spartan pursuing her masters of science in clinical mental health counseling.

The pitcher has played in 20 games with one start. Rodriguez has tossed 34.1 innings with 15 strikeouts. This season, Rodriguez earned her first-career win in an 8-5 come-from-behind win against East Carolina, where she threw 2.2 scoreless innings.

The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native has been named to the Chancellor's and Dean's list every semester. She was inducted in to the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll twice, and earned the SoCon Commissioner's Medal twice.

This year, Rodriguez was the secretary for UNCG's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and was a representative last year. She also interned with Dr. Jen Farrell, UNCG's Sports Psychologist. This year she co-lead a mindfulness activity called Mindfulness Moments. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was a school counseling volunteer.

Dear softball,

Look at how far we've come.

From getting blue slushies after little league games in Clemmons, North Carolina to winning a National Championship in Salem, Oregon, and coming back home to win SoCon Championships in Greensboro, N.C. I will cherish these experiences forever. You've been such a big part of my life for so long that it's hard to believe it'll soon come to an end.

Through you I've met great people and found my best friends.

You've bonded me and Dad together in ways that others cant understand. I'll always hold the memories of long road trips to camps with Dad close to my heart.  I'm so grateful to have gone on this journey with my family by my side. The best part of my athletic successes has always been being able to celebrate with my Mom, dad, and sis.

Even though my time playing is coming to a close, I know you'll still be in my life. I'll be watching others live out the dream that I aspired for and was lucky enough to achieve.

Thanks for the ride softball.
