Mathewson Tosses First Career Complete Game

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Senior LHP Jared Mathewson went the distance for his first complete game in the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's 7-3 win over the VMI Keydets on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Spartans clinched the series, 2-1.

SPARTANS INTERVIEWING SPARTANS WITH BRADLEY BOTT
Bott: "Jared threw a complete game today and got the win. What was going through you mind on the mound today?"
Mathewson: "I was just trying to put my team in a spot to win the game today. I threw my first career complete game and I got to do it on Mother's Day, so it was pretty cool to do that.
Bott: "Of course, Happy Mother's Day to all moms out there."

FINAL WORDS FROM COACH GODWIN
On Jared Mathewson's Complete Game
"He had a couple of easy innings there at the end of the game. It was certainly realistic to send him back out there. He came into the dugout after the eighth and I asked him and he basically told me he wanted to go back out and he asked for the ball, so I'm going to give him the ball. I didn't think he was in any jeopardy. I thought he got better as he went and he pitched very well."

UPCOMING
UNCG will welcome the 2016 College World Series Champions, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, on Wednesday. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.

The Spartans will host their annual Alumni Weekend next weekend against ETSU. Saturday prior to the game, UNCG will honor its 2022 senior class.
