GREENSBORO, N.C. – The reigning 2021 Southern Conference (SoCon) Regular Season Champions, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will host the Spartan-Aggie Tournament for the second-straight year.
The Spartans will open the season with Bethune-Cookman on Friday and then welcome Coppin State and co-host N.C. A&T on Saturday to Fleming Gym.

UNCG was voted to finish sixth in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches Poll.

Gabriela McHugh, who was on the All-Conference first team last season, was voted to the Preseason All-Conference team.

The Spartans added seven new faces to the roster this season.

Volleyball Adds Five to 2022 Roster
RETURNERS
- The Spartans return Elayne Grisbee, who was fourth on the team with 2.14 kills per set and second on the team with a .390 hitting percentage.
- Taylor Robertson was fifth averaging 1.88 kills per set.
- McHugh led the conference averaging 10.41 assists per set. She was also sixth on the team with 13 service aces.
SCOUTING BETHUNE-COOKMAN
- Bethune-Cookman is in their second season in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
- Alleah Dallas who led the conference with 99 blocks last season, was named SWAC Preseason Middle Blocker of the Year.
- Jasmine Moore led the Wildcats in 2021 with 212 kills and was second with 24 service aces.
- Victoria Samedy (88 kills) and Malina Spencer (74 kills) are also returning.
- Jacynta Williams returns after recording 246 digs in 2021.
- According to UNCG volleyball records, this is the first match-up between the Spartans and the Wildcats.
SCOUTING COPPIN STATE
- Coppin State was 16-12 overall and 9-5 in the MEAC in 2021.
- The Eagles return the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year and 2022 Preseason Player of the Year Miajavon Coleman.
- Coleman led the MEAC in kills for three seasons.
- Last time Coppin State played UNCG was September 11, 2021, where the Spartans won 3-1 in Fairfax, Virginia.
SCOUTING NC A&T
- The Aggies were 20-11 overall last season and 11-5 in the Big South.
- This year they will be playing in the Colonial Athletic Conference.
- Sophomore Naiya Sawtelle returns and led the Aggies with 3.32 kills per set.
- Senior Addy Warfield also returns who led with a .410 hitting percentage.
- NC A&T played in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship in 2021, falling to UCONN in the opening round.
- UNCG leads the series 34-3 against the Aggies with its most recent win a 3-1 victory on September 4, 2021 at NC A&T.
- The Spartans have won 18 straight matches against the Aggies.
