GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) head volleyball coach,
Corey Carlin, announced the signing of Hallie Cook, Ella Voegele, Sierra Herndon, Lovie Wallace, and Denver Pugh for the 2022 season.
Â
"We are extremely excited to welcome these new players to our program," said Carlin. "The members of this class, including our early signee Mya Wood, each bring physical talent, quality skills and deep experience playing at the highest levels of club volleyball. Several of them have experience playing different positions which provide us flexibility in formulating the best line-up options. But more than that, we believe they will all be great teammates once they get acclimated to our team and how we operate. The future is definitely bright for Spartan Volleyball!"
Â
Cook, an outside hitter, has been a four-year starter for Springfield Catholic High School in Springfield, Mo. During her time under head coach Dan Evans, she was named to the All-District and All-Conference team three times, the All-State team twice, as well as the AVCA All-Region team. She was named the Big 8 Fast Conference Player of the Year unanimously for the 2021 season.
Â
She will leave as the career leader in digs, aces, and serving percentage. She also holds the season record for digs and aces.
Â
"Hallie has a lot of versatility to her game," said Carlin. "She's played different positions and excelled at each. Because of that experience, she has a great game IQ and understands how pieces of the game should flow together. She's extremely sharp-minded and brings an infectious competitive energy, which her teammates are going to love."
Â

She contributed to two state championships, including the first state championship in Wayzata volleyball history.
Â
"Ella brings a great level of experience and skill to our program," said Carlin. "In addition to her time playing for a high level club team, she's been an integral starter for one of the top high school volleyball programs in the country so she knows how to make great plays consistently. Her ball control, defensive skills and competitive spirit will have a quick and lasting impact on our team."
Â

Â
"Sierra brings a lot to our team," said Carlin. "First, she's versatile in having playing experience at different positions which will allow her to contribute to the group in different ways. Secondly, she is extremely quick and has a fast arm as a consistent threat to score. Thirdly, she plays with a high motor, reflecting the type of work ethic all top performers possess."

Â
Wallace, a middle blocker, has been a four-year varsity player for Hamilton Southeastern. During her time under head coach Jason Young, she was named to the 2019 All-State Team and a 2020 All-American. She helped the Royals to a state championship as well as two national championships.
Â
"Lovie is a great example of the power of perseverance," said Carlin. "She's overcome a lot to get to where she is and that shows real strength. She has the physicality and natural arm talent to become a dominant SoCon player in the future. She's an inquisitive person that cares about the quality of her performance and we're definitely looking forward to having her in the fold."
Â
Â
Pugh, an outside hitter, is a transfer from CSU Bakersfield. In the 2021-22 season, she made an appearance in 14 sets over seven matches. She tallied eight kills and seven blocks, She set her career-high of three kills and two blocks in the NIVC tournament at Weber State. In high school, she earned a spot on the All-State First Team, All-Conference Team, and All-League Team in 2018 and 2019.
Â
"Competitively speaking, Denver has been in a tough spot over the past 20 months as most schools in California opted out of playing in 2020-21 and chose to forgo that season entirely, so she hasn't had the same opportunities to compete compared to many of her peers," said Carlin. "But her other general experience as a collegiate student-athlete will definitely help in her transition to UNCG. She has the physical ability and potential to be a very successful player in our league."
