Volleyball to Begin 2026 Campaign at Gamecock Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will begin its 2026 regular season campaign by traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, to compete in the Gamecock Classic, hosted by South Carolina on Friday and Saturday at the Carolina Volleyball Center.
 
The Spartans will face South Carolina on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and conclude the two-day event by taking on Northeastern on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG recorded a 17-12 overall record and a 9-7 mark in The Southern Conference (SoCon) last season.
  • The fifth-seeded Spartans defeated No. 4 Chattanooga in a SoCon Tournament Quarterfinal match, advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. 
  • The season was concluded with a 3-1 battle against No. 1 ETSU in the SoCon Semifinals.
  • UNCG was selected to finish fourth in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with 50 total points. 
  • The 2026 roster features 12 returners and five newcomers, including four freshmen and one transfer.
  • Junior outside hitter Allie Sweet was named to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after being selected to the All-SoCon First Team last season.
  • She led the Spartans with 501 kills in 2025 and averaged 4.43 kills per set. In addition, she finished second on the squad with 329 digs and 34 service aces.
  • Sophomore middle blocker Connore' Siler-Nixon returns after being selected to the All-SoCon First Team last season. She paced the Spartans with 99.0 total blocks in 2025.
  • Chloe Nussbaum returns as the leading libero for the Spartans after pacing the team with 529 digs last year.
  • Gabby Seeds also returns as the leading setter from last season with 969 assists on the 2025 season.
  • Head Coach Trent Dunahoo is in his first season at the helm of the UNCG volleyball team and fourth season overall with the program.
ABOUT THE GAMECOCKS
  • South Carolina concluded the 2025 season 10-16 overall and 4-11 in the SEC.
  • The Gamecocks' season was wrapped up with a 3-1 loss to Alabama on Nov. 21, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia.
  • South Carolina was selected to finish 14th with 45 points on the 2026 SEC Preseason Poll.
  • The 2026 roster features eight returners and nine newcomers.
  • South Carolina will face two more SoCon opponents in its non-conference schedule, including Wofford and ETSU.
  • Head Coach Sarah Rumely Noble is in her second season at the helm of the South Carolina volleyball program.
ABOUT THE HUSKIES
  • Northeastern's 2025 season was finished with a 9-16 overall record and 5-11 mark in the CAA.
  • The Huskies were picked to finish seventh in the CAA Preseason Poll with 46 points.
  • Beatrice Gennari earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention after a standout performance in 2025.
  • Gennari appeared in all 98 sets, finishing the season with 171 kills and 97 total blocks.
  • Emma Rowell was named to the Preseason All-CAA Team after leading the Huskies with 278 kills, 301.5 points and 2.81 kills per set.
  • The 2026 roster features seven newcomers and 13 returners. 
  • Head Coach Brendan McGourn is in his second season as head coach of the Northeastern volleyball team.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will travel to Clemson, South Carolina, for the Clemson Invitational from Sept. 4-6 at Jervey Gym. UNCG will take on Clemson, App State and East Carolina across the three-day event.
