GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team hosts the Tussle in the Triad, its second tournament of the 2022 season this Friday and Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Spartans were the runners up at the Spartan-Aggie Tournament last weekend, where they finished 2-1 overall.
- UNCG defeated Bethune-Cookman in straight sets and had a five-set battle of a win over Coppin State, 3-2.
- In its final match of the tournament, the Spartans fell to NC A&T, 3-2.
- Freshman Mya Wood and senior Gabriela McHugh were named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Wood averaged 3.33 kills per set last weekend and recorded two double-doubles (10 kills, 13 digs vs. Bethune-Cookman & 18 kills, 16 digs vs. Coppin State).
- McHugh tallied three double-doubles (34 assists, 11 digs vs. Bethune-Cookman, 43 digs, 11 digs vs. Coppin State, and 44 digs, 13 digs vs. NC A&T).
SETTER OF THE WEEK
- McHugh added another recognition to her name taking the title of SoCon Setter of the Week.
- She is leading the conference with 121 assists averaging 9.31 per set.

RETURNERS
- The Spartans return Elayne Grisbee, who was fourth on the team with 2.14 kills per set and second on the team with a .390 hitting percentage.
- Taylor Robertson was fifth averaging 1.88 kills per set.
- McHugh led the conference averaging 10.41 assists per set. She was also sixth on the team with 13 service aces.
SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
- South Carolina State opened its season on Tuesday against Charleston Southern, falling 3-0.
- Semira Fields led the team with five kills and eight digs.
- Kiarra Rosales also had eight digs.
- Siela Avea registered 12 assists.
- The Lady Bulldogs were 0-24 overall last season and 0-15 in the MEAC.
SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
- Georgia Southern is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Bash in the Boro, where it defeated Alcorn State and USC Upstate 3-0 while falling to Stetson 3-0.
- Emily Jarome finished the weekend with 40 kills and 16 digs while hitting .321 to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
- Ashlyn Lovett was also named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 42 digs for 4.67 digs per set.
- She ranks third in the Sun Belt in digs.
- The Eagles are holding their opponents to a .095 hitting percentage, which ranks 15th in the nation.
- The Eagles finished the 2021 campaign with a 17-11 record, the most wins for the program since the 2013 season.
- They are returning 15 letterwinners, adding three transfers and two freshman.
- Georgia Southern was picked to finish third in the East Division in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll, and 2021 first-team All-Sun Belt selection Baylor Bumford garnered preseason all-league accolades.
SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE
- UNC Asheville hits the road for the first time during the 2022 season.
- Asheville is 2-3 to start the season, defeating Stonehill, 3-0, and Lees-McCrae, 3-0.
- Giulia Rodrigues currently leads all Big South players with 82 digs and ranks third in digs per set with 5.12.
- Lindsay Springer leads the Big South with 90 assists, averaging 5.62 per set.
- Kylie Cackovic averages 3.00 kills per set to lead the team.
- Ryann Allison is averaging 0.89 blocks per set to lead the Bulldogs, while Nina Finderle is right behind her averaging 0.88 per set.
- The Bulldogs compiled an overall record of 6-19 last season and 4-12 in Big South play.
- They were picked to tie for seventh in the Big South Preseason Coaches Poll.
