DURHAM, N.C. - Noah Connor's birdie on the Duke University Golf Club's eighth hole broke a three-way tie for fifth place, propelling the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf into sole possession of the fifth spot on the team leaderboard in the final round of the Rod Myers Invitational Saturday morning and afternoon at Duke.
Starting the morning on the tenth tee, the Spartans finished one-under-par on the front nine to close the round. Connor's pivotal back-to-back birdies started on the par-five, 573-yard seventh hole where he overcame the course's second-hardest hole.
His two-under-par (70) final-round effort helped him crack the top-25 individuals with a score of 219 (three over par).
The senior's birdie on the par-three, 173-yard eighth hole lifted the Spartans over Liberty and UNC-Wilmington for fifth place with a final-round score of three-under-par (285) and total tally of nine-over-par (873).
Tommy Lamb joined Connor as one of three Spartans with an under-par final-round card, finishing two-under-par (70). Lamb's effort included a birdie on the course's hardest hole, the par-four, 439-yard 17th.
Connor Brown posted a one-under-par (71) effort with three back-nine birdies and a front-nine effort where he scored a par on all nine holes.
Nick Lyerly finished in a tie for eleventh place with a one-under-par (215) tournament total along with teammate
Randall Hudson who competed as an individual. Hudson carded a final-round two-under-par (70) score, moving up nine spots on the individual leaderboard.
