WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team lost to in-state non-conference foe UNC Wilmington (UNCW) Tuesday night as the Seahawks scored two second-half goals at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG and UNCW traded shots in the first 10 minutes of action, before the Spartans had back-to-back opportunities in the 17
th minute of play. The first came from
Donovan Roux that was saved by UNCW's goalkeeper Jacob Randolph and the second was by
Arnaud Tattevin that was blocked by the Seahawks' backline.
UNCG had two other opportunities in the first half, as Tattevin connected again, this time from the left side of the 18-yard box at 24:08 but Randolph was there for the save.
Ethan Conley later had a long strike from outside the box that was blocked at 33:55.
At 68:13, a foul was called on
Colton Sessoms, as he took down a Seahawk player inside of the 18-yard box. Gabe Mercer set up for the penalty kick and successfully found the back of the net to put UNCW up 1-0. Eleven minutes later, the Spartans'
William Garinger made a great initial save on a ball that was kicked by a sliding Seahawk but Caleb Powell put back the rebound for a 2-0 advantage at 79:43.
