GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team lost in a five-set thrilling match to ETSU on Saturday night in Fleming Gymnasium (25-19, 13-25, 25-18, 14-25, 10-15).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Although the first set tied on a few occasions, the Spartans never allowed the Bucs to lead in game one after a kill from
Madeline Timmerman putting the home team on the board first. A set point service error from ETSUÂ and the Spartans' .394 hitting percentage gave UNCG the first set, 25-19.Â
The second set started off very close with both teams going back-and-forth. However, with the Spartans up 11-10, the Bucs captured an 11-1 run to maintain the rest of the set with a final 25-13 score.

The Spartans regained its momentum in set three to get on the board first and hold the lead throughout the entire game. A final kill from
Aylin Baran gave UNCG set three, 25-18 to the put the squad up 2-1 in the match.

UNCG began the fourth set with back-to-back points thanks to a block assist from
Daija Jackson and
America Anderson, followed by a kill from
Hallie Cook. However, with UNCG up 5-4, ETSU notched a 7-0 run to regain the lead and hold it for the remainder of game four. ETSU won the fourth set 25-14 to extend the match to five sets.

Set five started off as a close battle, but with the game tied at five, ETSU recorded two-straight points run to take the lead and hold it for the remainder of the match. A service error gave the Bucs the final set, 15-10.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Cook and Baran both registered double-doubles in the match. Cook with her second career double-double notched 15 kills and 13 digs, while Baran with her fourth career double-double recorded 11 kills and 11 digs.Â
- Timmerman followed closely behind Cook with 15 kills.
- Izora Gragg posted a new career high of 40 assists on Saturday.
- Avery Sziksai and Baran posted four service aces apiece on the day. Baran's four service aces was a new career high for the freshman.
- Sziksai also led the team with 15 digs on the match.
- The Spartans totaled 12 service aces as a team in the match to the Bucs' nine.
