GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team fell short to Wofford over a four-set matchup on Friday night (25-20, 19-25, 14-25, 11-25) in Fleming Gymnasium.

With the Spartans win over the Terriers in set one, the squad is the first team in The Southern Conference (SoCon) to claim a set over Wofford.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A kill from
Aylin Baran put the Spartans on a 3-0 run to start the match. The Blue & Gold held the lead until Wofford dropped a 6-0 run later on in the frame to make the score 16-13. However, UNCG responded with a 4-0 run that featured kills from Baran, and blocks from
Daija Jackson and
Izora Gragg to put the squad back on top, 17-16. The Spartans held the lead for the remainder of the first game. A final kill from
Hallie Cook put the Spartans up 1-0 in the match after earning the first set, 25-20.
The Terriers found its stride in the second set after starting it off with a 2-0 lead over the Spartans. However, UNCG chipped away to earn its way back into the match. With Wofford up 10-8, a kill from Baran sparked a 4-0 run to allow UNCG to claim its first lead of set two, 12-10. The rest of the frame would continue to go back-and-forth until a 3-0 run put the Terriers up 16-14 to take the lead and hold it for the rest of the set. Two consecutive kills from the Terriers gave the visiting team set two, 25-19.

Wofford continued its momentum into the third game by notching a 7-1 run to start things off. The Terriers held the lead for the entire third set to earn it with a final score of 25-14.

A service ace from
Mallory Meers gave the Spartans a 1-0 advantage in the fourth set. However, Wofford's .452 hitting percentage gave it the edge for the remainder of the game, claiming the fourth set, 25-11.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jackson led the Spartans with 11 kills and notched a .391 hitting percentage.
- Baran followed closely behind with nine kills.
- Meers recorded her 13th double-double of her career with 15 assists and 11 digs.
- Mya Wood and Gragg both matched Meers in the match, Wood with 11 digs and Gragg with 15 assists.
