CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team fell in a straight set loss at The Citadel on Saturday night (19-25, 17-25, 14-25).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saturday's match began with The Citadel recording a 3-0 run over the Spartans in set one. UNCG pulled back within one on two occasions in the set. First, with two consecutive service aces from
Avery Sziksai (5-6) and again with an attack error from the Bulldogs' Angelina Sayles (6-7). However, The Citadel continued to maintain the lead to claim set one, 25-19.

The Bulldogs continued to hold the lead in game two by starting things off with a 3-0 run thanks to three consecutive kills from middle blocker Maddy Cardenas and the outside duo Ali Ruffin and Angelina Sayles. The Spartans were able to cut the deficit to one three times during set two, but the Bulldogs continued to widen their lead margin. However, with the Bulldogs up 23-14, a kill from
Sierra Herndon sparked a 3-0 run to put the squad back within six (17-23). The Citadel responded with a 2-0 run to secure the second set, 25-17.

The Spartans took its first lead of the match in the third set with a 2-0 run, featuring a kill from
Aylin Baran and a service ace from
Mallory Meers. However, the Bulldogs responded with nine unanswered points to take the lead and hold it for the remainder of the match. The Citadel claimed the third and final set with a 3-0 run, 25-14.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Meers led the Spartans in two statistical categories after notching 15 assists and leading both teams with four service aces.
- Baran led the way on the outside with six kills.
- Sziksai led the squad with 10 digs on the day. Hallie Cook followed closely behind with nine digs.
- America Anderson and Daija Jackson tag teamed at the net with four total blocks collectively.
