WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track & field teams competed in their second meet of the season in the JDL Early Bird Invitational on Sunday at the JDL Fast Track.
MEN'S RESULTS
Freshman
Samuel Barnard and sophomore
Evan Pena won their respective races at the JDL Fast Track on Sunday.
Barnard ran a time of 2:32.50 in the 1000-meter race out of 17 competitors. This time broke the meet record, which was held by former Spartan
Colin Alexander. Alexander ran a time of 2:34.17 in 2022. With the conversion, Barnard ran a time of 2:30.43 and it is now the top time in UNCG history, passing Terry Wyatt's time of 2:30.93 from February 12, 2010 at the Tiger Paw Invitational.
Pena clocked in a time of 15:43.80 in the 5000-meter run. He was the first competitor across the finish line out of six runners.
UNCG also saw four others finish in the top-10 in the 1000-meter run, including
Andrew Hamilton,
Lane Prochaska,
Charlie Bennett, and
Glodi Mvovi. Hamilton finished the race with a personal best time of 2:35.90, taking home third overall, while Prochaska and Bennett placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Mvovi, in his first 1000-meter collegiate race placed 10
th.
The Spartans had five compete in the mile, where
Cooper Neeble was the first Blue & Gold across the finish line. Neeble clocked in a time of 4:28.44, finishing fourth out of 47 competitors.
Colin Keck ran the event in 4:29.44 placing sixth overall, while Abdullahi and Long took eighth and ninth, respectively.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
On the women's side, senior
Shay Soukup ran a time of 2:24.92 in the 800-meter run winning the event out of 29 competitors.
Naomi Pridgen in the 200 meters,
Madison McMasters in the 400 meters, and
Vicky Sosa in the 3000 meters all ran personal best times.
Laila Burk was the runner up in the 1000-meter run clocking in a time of 3:20.40, while
Serena Henderson ran a time of 3:20.72 finishing in third place out of eight competitors.
Sosa clocked in her personal best time of 10:42.37 in the 3000-meter run, finishing sixth out of 24 competitors.
Jenna Reiter followed behind her in seventh place, clocking in a time of 10:42.92.

UNCG will take some time off before continuing its indoor schedule on January 12 and 13. The Spartans will compete in The Burg Open on Friday, January 12 in Lynchburg, Virginia at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. They will follow that with the Mondo College Invitational on Saturday, January 13 in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the JDL Fast Track.
