GREENSBORO, N.C. – After an impressive 4-0 weekend at home, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will host Campbell in a mid-week contest with a start time of 5 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Â

The Spartans then host UConn, Delaware, and Indiana in the UNCG Invitational from Saturday, February 24 to Sunday, February 26. This will be their second of three tournaments hosted at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Spartans went 4-0 this weekend at their own Spiro Classic with two wins over Morehead State and two victories over UNCW.
- In UNCG's final game of the tournament against UNCW, Maddie Spell earned her second win of the season, tossing 5.0 innings.
- She gave up just four hits and one run with no earned runs.
- Maycin Brown went 2-for-3.
- Delaney Cumbie and Brookynn Maxwell each had two RBI.
- Samantha Lagrama went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

- Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week during the first week of play, following the Spartans' 3-2 start in Florida.
- Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week during the second week of play, going 2-0 in the circle.
- Jorde Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .529 batting average.
- Maycin Brown, who is one of four Spartans with a .300 or higher batting average, leads the team with 15 RBI and five home runs.

PRESEASON PRESENTS
UNCG was chosen to finish second in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.
Fifth year Cumbie was selected to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Cumbie was named to the All-SoCon first team and SoCon All-Tournament Team. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

Maycin Brown was voted to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Brown was named to the All-SoCon first team. She was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, SoCon Player of the Week, and SoCon Player of the Month last season.

Sophomore Loftin was tabbed to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Loftin was on the All-SoCon first team and freshman team. She was also voted to the NFCA Extra Inning Softball All-Freshman Team and All-Mideast second team. She was also selected as a Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 finalist.

DEPTH IN RETURNERS
Thirteen Spartans are listed on the roster from last year's team, including seven that started in 20 or more of the 57 games played in 2022.

Last season the Spartans saw three players bat above .300. Two of the three are returning, including offensive leader Brown who led the team with a .329 batting average. Cumbie was second on the team with a .303 batting average. Â
Cumbie and
Brooklynn Maxwell return, as two of UNCG's five that were ranked in the top 100 in individual stat categories. Cumbie was fourth in hit-by-pitch per game (0.42), 40th in home runs (16), 47th in home runs per game (0.30), 63rd in runs per game (0.91), 82nd in on-base percentage (0.473). Maxwell was 21st in toughest-to-strikeout (23.3).

SCOUTING CAMPBELL
- Last season, the Fighting Camels went 37-19 overall, including a 21-6 Big South record.
- Campbell was pitched to finish third in the Big South Preseason Poll.
- Campbell returns 15 from last year's squad who have experience after earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- The Fighting Camels split games at the Carolina Classic this past weekend, defeating Delaware, 3-2, and ETSU, 9-3.
- They fell to Western Kentucky, 3-0, and South Carolina, 2-1.
- Makayla McClain was named Big South Freshman of the Week. She batted .400, going 6-for-15, scoring five runs, two RBI, a triple, and three stolen bases.
- McClain is leading Campbell with eight RBI and a .333 batting average.
- Allyiah Swiney was named Big South Freshman of the Week the first week of play, after batting .357 in four games at the Charlotte Invitational.
- In the circle, Isabella Smith has thrown 37.2 innings this season with a 4-2 record.
- In the nation, the Fighting Camels are 19th in triples per game, 44th in stolen bases per game.
