Men’s Golf Completes Linger Longer Invitational

EATONTON, S.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf's graduate student Nick Lyerly led the Spartans with a four-over-par 54-hole finish as the Spartans placed 12th at the end of the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Golf Club, hosted by the University of Georgia.
 
Lyerly posted three birdies in his final round effort beginning at the par five, 543-yard 18th hole before the turn to the front nine. The graduate student followed with a stretch of two birdies in three holes on the front nine. Lyerly carded birdies on the par three, 191-yard fourth hole and then the par five, 557-yard sixth. Lyerly's back nine one-under-par (35) scorecard featured no bogeys or worse and eight pars. With a 54-hole total of four-over-par (220), Lyerly placed in a tie for 29th.
 
Competing as an individual, Connor Brown posted the second-lowest UNCG scorecard on the day with an even-par (72). The sophomore carded four birdies starting with the par four, 351-yard 11th hole on his second hole of the day. On the front nine, Brown accumulated the rest of his birdies in three out of four holes beginning with the par four, 432-yard third hole. The sophomore added birdies on the fourth and sixth holes. Brown finished the tournament tied for 40th at seven-over-par (223).
 
Symon Balbin shot three-over-par (75) in his final round effort, finishing 54-holes ten-over-par (226). The senior posted his first birdie on the 18th hole and followed by posting back-to-back birdies on the front nine beginning at the fourth hole and then again at the par four, 444-yard fifth. 
 
The Spartans placed 12th with a 54-hole total of 40-over-par (904) after a final round total of 15-over-par (303). UNCG finished one shot behind Charlotte and South Alabama who finished in a tie for tenth.
 
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
  • UNCG's 12-under-par effort on par five holes stood as the sixth-best effort in the field.
  • Tommy Lamb's six-under-par score on the par fives stood in a tie for seventh place in the field.
  • Lamb led the Spartans with 12 birdies.
  • Lyerly's 41 pars tied for the second-most in the tournament.
