GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team continues its seven-game streak away from home as it faces non-conference foe Charleston Southern for a Wednesday doubleheader in Charleston, South Carolina.
 
The Spartans are 12-7 overall while the Bucs are 8-8 this season.
 
LAST TIME OUT

• The Spartans went 3-0 against Elon this past weekend.
• This was the first time that the Spartans have swept the Phoenix since 2019.
• UNCG walked off in game one behind a two-run home run from Maycin Brown.
• The Spartans then dominated in a 10-5 win in Greensboro, before taking game three 3-1 on Sunday in Elon.  

QUICK SPARTAN HITS

• Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week during the first week of play, following the Spartans' 3-2 start in Florida.
• Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week during the second week of play, going 2-0 in the circle.
• Cumbie earned her second recognition from the SoCon as Player of the Week for batting .571 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored.
• Jorde Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .385 batting average.
• Cumbie is second on the team with a .383 average at the plate, while Brooklynn Maxwell is the other Spartan hitting above .300, swinging .302.  
• Maycin Brown paces the Spartans with 20 RBI and seven home runs.
• Chartrand also leads UNCG with 41 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 38.2 innings thus far.
• Rhyann Jones is 4-0 in the circle.
• Nationally, the Spartans are: 12th in walks (81), 25th in double plays per game (0.47), 33rd in home runs per game (1.11), 43rd in doubles (28), 51st in doubles per game (1.47), 52nd in slugging percentage (0.464), 59th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.69), 61st in on base percentage (0.379), 79th in scoring (4.89), 82nd in win-loss percentage (0.632)
• UNCG is leading the conference in double plays per game, doubles, home runs per game, on base percentage, scoring, shutouts, slugging percentage, and walks.
• Among the nation, Brown is 15th in home runs, 23rd in home runs per game, and 56th in runs batted in.
• Among the nation, Maxwell is 17th in doubles with seven, while Cumbie is 12th in walks per game with 0.89 and 13th in on-base percentage with 0.586.

 
PRESEASON PRESENTS
UNCG was chosen to finish second in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.

Fifth year Cumbie was selected to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Cumbie was named to the All-SoCon first team and SoCon All-Tournament Team. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
 
Senior Maycin Brown was voted to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Brown was named to the All-SoCon first team. She was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, SoCon Player of the Week, and SoCon Player of the Month last season.
 
Sophomore Loftin was tabbed to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Loftin was on the All-SoCon first team and freshman team. She was also voted to the NFCA Extra Inning Softball All-Freshman Team and All-Mideast second team. She was also selected as a Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 finalist.
 
Fifth year Samantha Lagrama was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team. Lagrama was named to the All-SoCon second team.

SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN

• Last season, the Bucs went 27-28 overall, for the most wins since 2014, and 12-13 in the Big South.
• Charleston Southern was voted to finish fifth in the Big South Preseason Poll.
• The 2023 squad returns nine players from 2022.
• Charleston Southern is coming off a weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. where they went 2-3.
• The Bucs won on Friday against North Florida and against Jacksonville on Sunday.
• Ashley Meckley is leading the team with a .277 batting average (13-for-47) with seven runs scored and four RBI.
• Harper Schoeneweis and Gracie Prince lead the team with six RBI each.
• Madelyne Lee is 8-for-8 in stolen bases.
• In the circle, Annah Jungee has tossed 62.1 innings striking out 54 batters with a 2.31 ERA.
• Her opponent batting average is .167 to lead the pitching staff.  
• Junge won Pitcher of the Week earlier this season.
