GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team continues its seven-game streak away from home as it competes in the Clemson Classic at the McWhorter Stadium.
 
The Clemson Classic schedule was originally scheduled from Friday, March 10 to Sunday, March 12, but due to impending weather, the games will now be played between Friday and Saturday.
 
LAST TIME OUT

• The Spartans split a doubleheader with non-conference foe Charleston Southern on Wednesday.
• In game one, the Bucs won 3-0, where Maddie Spell struck out six batters in 6.0 innings of work.
• In game two, UNCG won 12-0 for its third shutout of the season.
• Jorde Chartrand hit her third homer of the season.
• Rylie Williams crushed her first-collegiate hit, home run, and grand slam to secure the win in the top of the fifth.

QUICK SPARTAN HITS

• Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week during the first week of play, following the Spartans' 3-2 start in Florida.
• Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week during the second week of play, going 2-0 in the circle.
• Cumbie earned her second recognition from the SoCon as Player of the Week for batting .571 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored.
• Jorde Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .385 batting average.
• Cumbie is second on the team swinging .346 at the plate.
• Maycin Brown paces the Spartans with 21 RBI and seven home runs.
• Chartrand leads UNCG with 42 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 43.2 innings thus far.

• Among the nation, Maxwell is 7th in doubles with seven, while Cumbie is 12th in walks per game with 0.90 and 22nd in on-base percentage with 0.558.

 
PRESEASON PRESENTS
UNCG was chosen to finish second in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.

Fifth year Cumbie was selected to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Cumbie was named to the All-SoCon first team and SoCon All-Tournament Team. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
 
Senior Maycin Brown was voted to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Brown was named to the All-SoCon first team. She was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, SoCon Player of the Week, and SoCon Player of the Month last season.
 
Sophomore Loftin was tabbed to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Loftin was on the All-SoCon first team and freshman team. She was also voted to the NFCA Extra Inning Softball All-Freshman Team and All-Mideast second team. She was also selected as a Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 finalist.
 
Fifth year Samantha Lagrama was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team. Lagrama was named to the All-SoCon second team.

SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE

• The Dolphins went 15-31 overall last season and 9-15 in the ASUN.
•  Jacksonville is 10-9 overall this season.
• Madison Reynolds is batting .328 swinging 19-for 58.
• Allison Bratek is leading the team with 13 RBI, five home runs, 13 runs scored, and a .667 slugging percentage.
• In the circle, Emma Whitfield is 4-5, while Ashlee Harwood is 4-4.
• Whitfield has tossed 51.1 innings pitched, striking out 16.
• Harwood has thrown 39.1 innings and has struck out 28.

HISTORY VS. JACKSONVILLE

• The Spartans are 1-4 overall against the Dolphins
• Jacksonville opened the 2016 season with a battle against the Spartans, where the Dolphins won 7-5 on February 11.
• UNCG last won on February 8, 2-0.

 
SCOUTING CLEMSON

• Clemson was voted to finish second in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll.
• Valerie Cagle, McKenzie Clark, and Alia Logoleo was voted to the Preseason All-ACC Team.
• Clemson is 21-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC.
• Nationally, the Tigers are in the top 10 of 12 categories, including: second in ERA (0.71) and win loss percentage (0.955), third in hit batters (2), fourth in fielding percentage (0.987), fifth in doubles (38), sixth in batting average (0.367), on base percentage (0.452), and slugging percentage (0.615), seventh in shutouts (9), eighth in home runs per game (1.41) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.61).
• Cagle is second in the nation in total bases (68), third in total hits (35), sixth home runs (8), seventh in batting average (0.522), eighth in victories with nine and slugging percentage (1.015).
• Cagle's 24 RBI lead the team, while Logoleo's 20 is second.
• Caroline Jacobsen and Maddie Moore each have six home runs for second on the team.
• Julia Bomhardt has successfully stolen 8-for-10 bases.
• Cagle has tossed a team-best 61.0 innings, striking out 74, with a 0.58 ERA.

HISTORY VS. CLEMSON

• This will be the second battle between the two teams.
• UNCG is leading the series 1-0.

SCOUTING BRYANT

• Bryant brought back 20 players from last year's team and added eight freshmen and one transfer this season.
• The Bulldogs are 3-6 overall this season.
• Megan Marcel is leading the team with six RBI.
• Jenna Gardner has crushed four homers to lead the team.
• Hannah Cochran is lead the team with four doubles.
• In eight games played, Gardner is swinging .391.
• In the circle, Kylie Kenney has tossed 28.0 innings with a 3-2 record striking out 6.25 batters per inning.
