Samford Outlasts Baseball in 10 Innings, 4-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to Samford, 4-2, in 10 innings on Saturday afternoon at J.L. Griffin Field.

Caleb Cozart pitched 4.2 innings only allowing three hits and no runs in his fourth start of the season.

How it Happened

Zack Budzik led off the game with a double to right field, as Kennedy Jones hit a single up the middle driving in Budzik for a 1-0 lead. Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate and was one of the two Spartans with a multi-hit game.

Mitchell Smith continued the scoring for the Spartans, scoring off a ground out from Daniel Cerda extending the score to 2-0. Smith went 2-for-4 with a double on the day.

Samford remained scoreless through the fifth inning and the Bulldogs were finally able to counter tying the game with a two-run home run from Kaden Dreier in the bottom of the sixth.

UNCG left two runners on base in the top of the ninth, while Samford left the bases juiced in the bottom of the frame as the Spartans got out of the jam with a pop out forcing the game into extra innings. The game-winning home run came from Samford's Dreier as he hit his second two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th after Howe singled to lead off the inning.
